The "Super-Mega-Oh-My-Celestia-What-Was-I-Thinking?!" Lot Has Arrived

Well, actually, I bought multiple lots from the same seller, not just one big lot.

How does one eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.  Let's start with the Disney and Barbie Dolls...

When I first saw this lot I wondered why there were so many Cinderella dolls in one listing.  Then...I noticed Undersea Party Ariel.  Then I had my "omg" moment when I saw the lot included Mal from the new Disney Descendants line.  Next to Mal is a re-dressed Disney Store Wedding Rapunzel doll (whaaaaaat?)  Had to have the lot.  I couldn't pass it up.  One:  I love the 90's Little Mermaid dolls from Tyco.  Two: Mal.  Need Mal.  Three: Punzie totally a cool bonus.

The last lot of dolls that I won just happened to have Punzie's tiara included (from a Mattel release).  Also, one of the older Mattel Cinderella dolls had a really cool wedding dress.  Movie accurate?  No.  Super cute?  Yes!  I like to think that Punzie is having her "Say Yes to the Dress" moment.  She loves the look, but it's not the one.

Mal!  I really can't believe someone already decided to discard this doll!  She is complete, too!  Well, okay, she's missing some sort of book accessory (I haven't seen the movie), but her outfit is complete.  I can't wait to find more of these dolls! Edit: I have since realized Mal is missing a plastic clip-on collar for her jacket?  Also, there is a new YouTube webseries "Wicked World" that features cartoon versions of the Descendants cast.  The animation style is the same as the doll design.

My lovely Undersea Party Ariel doll!  She is missing her hair bow.  Luckily the corsage accessory looks exactly the same as the hair bow (minus two ribbons).

Gee, Ariel, you're looking kinda stiff...you might want to relax.

Now, I didn't notice this lovely when I saw the auction online.  I'm not a huge fan of this particular dress, which is much darker in person.  I'm not entirely sure if I'll be adding this doll to my collection, but I will enjoy her for a little while.

Oh Boy! Doll Brag!

I bought a large lot of dolls on online that arrived today.  I had a good idea of what was arriving, but was still surprised with a few of the finds!

There are so many goodies in this lot!  I am only keeping a few dolls.  First: the fairies!  I was able to upgrade my Fawn & Rosetta dolls.  Plus I was finally able to add Silvermist to my collection!  I am so pleased that Fawn has her wings and Sil has her shoes!!!!!

I knew I was getting a Briar Beauty when I won the auction, but I didn't know it was the Legacy Day version.  Her outfit is incomplete, but I don't really mind.  I'm breaking my "signature dolls only" and adding her to my EAH Collection.

I can't wait until my next lot arrives.  It may be the biggest haul I've ever won online.  Oooh, the excitement!

Plastic Mermaids & Napcowear Kitty

It's been some time since I last posted.   I started a new job last month and have been very busy.  I've been so busy that I haven't been able to visit my favorite thrift stores!

A few weeks ago I made a quick visit to a Goodwill while grocery shopping.  I was able to find a set of Disney mini-figures I've wanted for quite some time!

A few years ago The Disney Store released a set of dolls that, as far as I know, don't have an actual name.  'Round the net they're known as "Ariel and Her Sisters."  Maybe that's the actual name for the line?  There was also a mini-figure set of the characters in the same style of the dolls.  I waited too long to buy them and, before I knew it, they were off the shelves.

About a year ago, I found one of the mini-figs (Arista) at the same Goodwill store I visited this month.  Just. Arista.  Can you imagine my surprise when I found all of the other sisters at the same Goodwill?  Well, all but Ariel.  Still!  It makes me wonder if they came from the same household.

The mermaids I found are far from perfect: someone or something has chewed their fins!  Not that I mind.  I have them arranged in such a way that I can't see the flaws.

Other than that trip, I haven't been thrifting.  I reached my threshold today and just had to go!  It didn't matter which store - I needed to thrift!

I went to one of my favorite stores on one of my least favorite days to shop!  The store offers a sale on Sundays and Mondays where nearly half of the store is 50% off.  The toy area, like I expected, was quite barren.

I found the bottom bunk of Clawdeen Wolf's bunkbed.  Just the bed.  It was $0.45, so, yes, it came home with me.

I decided to browse the other aisles when I noticed a cute cat sitting among a bunch of flower pots.  I don't normally buy things like animal shaped planters, but decided to take a look.  As soon as my hand touched it I knew it felt exactly like the Gremlin I mentioned in my last post.  It was made of the exact same type of porcelain.  The paint job was excellent with only a small scuff on the non-display side.  I noticed a rough area on one ear and, on closer inspection, noticed it was chipped.  Although, when looking at the cat, I couldn't see the chip.

I stared at the cat wondering how old it really was.  Vintage, for sure, but antique?  I turned the cat over to see if there were any markings.  It was stamped "C-1118" and had half of a sticker. "...ware. Japan."

Thrift Store Find 10/25/2015

I decided to take a chance on this lovely cat to see if it could help me identify my Gremlin.  When I got home I found that Kitty is from a line called Napcoware.

The NAPCO company (aka North American Pottery Co.) is located in Bedford, OH and began producing porcelain and glassware in the late 30's.  In the late 50's and into the 60's they began importing high quality ceramic pieces from Japan.  Everything from ashtrays to figurines...and especially decorative planters and vases.  In fact, one of the most popular collectibles are their "Lady Head Vases."  Seriously.  Google it.  You'll be glad you did.

The cat is about 6.5" (the yard stick is a bit slanted in the pic, which is why it looks more like 7").  It's a bit dusty, but isn't it cute?  I really love the colors and the sculpt.

My theory that the Gremlin is bone china?  Still not sure.

Is my Gremlin from NAPCO?  Maaaaaybe?  I do have a strong feeling that it is a Japanese import from the late 50's - 60's.

It is true that NAPCO did produce bone china, but I don't know if my Gremlin or Kitty are actually bone china or just high quality ceramic.

What am I going to use Kitty for? No idea, but wouldn't she look cute with some orange and yellow mums?  Hmm...

I had nothing planned for today and ended up thrifting!  Found some really fun goodies and unbelievable prices (I got the Cinderella doll for $0.15!!!!!).

I couldn't resist bringing home the Pikachu and his friend, Pikachu.  Would you believe they both work?  The batteries are 17 years old!  They're so much fun!

I Buy Practical Things, Too...Sometimes

Quick stop at the thrift today.  I told myself going in that I was going to stay under $20.  That didn't happen, but at least I'm happy!

I don't have the time or energy to ID/date everything, but let me share what I found:

• Cast Metal Mirror.  I don't know how else to describe it.  It's a lovely mirror with a three dimensional sculpture of a dogwood tree branch in bloom with two butterflies perched at the ends.  Spectacular frame, even if the mirror isn't all that special (and, yes, that is a reflection of my "Pony Power" shirt).  I debated a long while if I should get it.  It didn't get weird until I started talking to myself, "You love it and you can use it.  Do it! Buy it!"
• Scaris Abbey Bominable Doll w/ Ghoul Spirit Venus's shoes.  Couldn't resist bringing her home. - 2013
• Barbie.  Such a pretty doll!  She was in a bag with Abbey.  She still has all of the plastic ties and rubber bands attached to her, so I guess she was never played with. -2000's
• Sofia the First Doll.  I'm a little confused by this doll.  She looks exactly like the talking dolls I've come across in the past, except she doesn't talk!  No "magic" necklace, no speakers. Hmmm...

Too Pooped to Blog

Oh, boy!  What a day I've had!  I am extremely tired, but wanted to update my blog with today's finds.  I also have a couple of drafts that I need to finish and post, but I've been so tired lately.  Let me share with you what happened today.  I can worry about completing those drafts later.

I visited one of my favorite flea markets and a thrift store today. I actually ran out of cash at the flea market and had to leave a number of treasures behind.

When I came home, a package had arrived from one of my friends at the MLPArena!  We organized a trade earlier this week and she sent her end so quickly!  She sent me three mini Lalaloopsy Ponies on their backcard, Nurse Redheart, and an adorable Funrise Twilight Sparkle clip-on!

Let me share what I found at the flea market:

• My First Disney Princess Angus the Horse.  Released as a set with a toddler Merida doll.  Angus is missing his stirrups. - 2012, but still available on ToysRUs.com
• ANOTHER Mattel Cinderella Budget Ballerina Doll.  Seriously?  She was packaged with another doll whose outfit I wanted. - Currently Available in Stores
• Barbie (Christie?) in Mod Outfit.  Stole her outfit for one of my vintage Barbie clones.  Not sure when this doll was released or what line she's from (Fashion Fever?), but the outfit was just too perfect for my clone.  The dress could very well be vintage, but I somehow doubt it. -  circa 2004 (best guess)
• Disney 12" Prince Phillip.  A very nice representation of Phillip, however something seems a bit off.  He is from the 40th anniversary set that was sold in Disney Parks and is missing his cape and boots.  - 1998
• Ken from "Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale."  Missing his tie. - 2010/2011
• Mermaid Princess Ariel.  I fell in love with the details of her pink dress and had to bring her home.  She originally came with a bikini top, purple tail, fork, and a pair of white flat shoes.  Of course I'll be hunting for her missing mermaid clothes in the future. - 2011  
• Playmates 15" Rainbow Brite Doll.  What a coincidence!  I just learned about this doll during the week and made a mental note to add her to my collection.  Her face and body are exactly the same as the Playmates Disney Toddler Dolls (or at least so extremely similar that it's ridiculous).  I didn't think I would find one, especially not so soon!  I'm a fan of the original 80's Rainbow and the past three reboots have been, in my opinion, epic failures...but this doll is really pretty.  She's missing a barrette that consists of a blue and a pink star. - 2009
• Fashion Star Fillies Calla is the third I have found recently.  Unbelievable.  She came with her barrettes, veil, and two leggings.  I mainly bought her for the leggings since the seller refused to sell them separately. - circa 1988
• Fashion Star Fillies Joelle came with one pink star barrette and her dress. - circa 1988 
• Classic Bryer Clydesdale "Shire" has some issues on his non-display side.  He has a chipped ear tip and a number of paint rubs.  Despite his flaws, and the fact that I limit my collecting to the Traditional size Breyers, he came home with me. - 2002 through 2008

Vintage Strawberry Shortcake items are a rarity in my area.  I think it's easy to say that I remember where and when every Strawberry Shortcake item I've found.

Today I found the ultimate Strawberry Shortcake  thrift store haul.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever find some of these dolls, let alone all of them at once.

It's Been a While!

Time has passed since my last post.  I've been busy with other aspects of being a human and put blogging about my toy finds on hold.

I dare to go as far as to say that I lost interest in the blog!  I just didn't have the time to photograph my finds and talk about them.

Programming is now back to it's original schedule.  So, what did I find since I last posted?

June 5th:

• Twilight's Twinkling Balloon!  It works, too!  One of my favorite G4 items.  I already have one, so it will be up for sale/trade.  It's missing the door, but that doesn't matter since it still looks great on display without the door.  It's also missing the telescope.
• Madame Alexander Wendykin: Laurie from Little Women.  Only missing his shoes.

June 11th:

• Three Ziplock (gallon size) bags Filled with Barbie Clothes.  Nearly all of the outfits are from Disney dolls that were released by Mattel in the early/mid 90's.  So excited about this since I was missing a few pieces of clothing for dolls I already owned.

• MIB Silken Flame Barbie - a reproduction Barbie released in the late 90's.  The box had a lot of damage, so I removed her for display.  I kept the artwork from the back of the box.  I have a tendency to do that for all the dolls I don't keep MIB ^_^
• Vintage Mini Schnauzer Ceramic Figure - I don't normally buy random ceramic figures.  This little guy just happened to be in the toy aisle of the thrift store.  So cute.  I mean...REALLY STINKIN' CUTE.  I need to get a picture of him so you can see the cuteness.  I figure he's from the 50's or 60's.  I noticed once I got home that he had the tip of his tail re-glued, but whoever did it must have been an expert.  All you can see is the faintest of a hairline crack.  He's currently next to Silken Flame Babs.  Not the right scale, but I love they way they look together.
• Miniature Monsters University Figures PLUS Role-a-Scare Monsters with Cars - I'll be honest:  I only wanted the Role-a-Scare Monsters (Sully and Randall) because they're so cute in their little cars.  I also have a "thing" for Zoobles and these are exactly like Zoobles.  Once I got home and sorted through the bag of Monsters, I realized I had all but three of the MU mini figs (Walmart exclusives apparently).  I have no where to display them, so maybe I'll be trading them?
• Old Dolls - I always buy any old dolls when I visit a particular pay-by-the pound thrift store.  Some are old walker style dolls from Uneeda (poor condition), a very cute Effanbee doll (I forget which mold), and Chatty Cathy!  Cathy speaks jibberish and needs a makeover.  In fact, all of the dolls except for the Effanbee doll need help.  I don't have the time, so I'll probably offer them for free to someone.  Chatty Cathy will be popping up on eBay soon.
• Vintage Doll Clothes - a few outfits including a lovely hand knitted robe/wrap dress for a 12" doll.  Oh!  And Ariel's "Kiss the Girl" dress from a 90's Tyco doll.  I just happened to have a nude Disney Store Classic 12" Ariel who was nude.  The dress fits her!  It's a little short, but I don't mind.  I also searched through the box of Babie shoes I picked up and found a pair of black pumps (no flats, unfortunately).  She looks very darling and was quite pleased that I decided to hoard Barbie shoes for moments like this.

June 26th 

• Calico Critters Baby Windmill Playhouse - I struggled on whether or not to buy it because the lower portion of the sliding board was broken off.  It was $3, so I ended up bringing it home.  It still is very cute for display purposes.  Plus I still have that Nursery Tree and Carrying Case I found two months ago.  Maybe an eBay lot in the future?  Side note:  would you believe that I found two Townhouses in one month?  Didn't buy either since they were $15 & $20.  I don't have the room and re-selling larger items on eBay is quite a hassle on my part.  I also found a Calico Critters Playtable (you see them at boutique stores for display purposes) for $5!  Again, I left it behind because: hassle/no room.  I don't know why I'm seeing so much Calico Critter stuff after years of never finding ANYTHING.  Where are the figures, though?  Hmmm...
• Disney Store Fairies Raini Doll-  Love love love this particular release of Fairies dolls, but I already own a complete Raini!  This one was only $1 and came with her dress and shoes (wings are broken, unfortunately).  She's so darling and I know I can find a new home for her.  Plus, there is probably someone just like me hunting for her dress or shoes.  Couldn't leave her behind!
• Vintage 1974 Tennis Champion Dusty Doll - Oh, Dusty.  Such a strange doll.  I love and hate her at the same time.  She was also $1 and came with her outfit plus cute shoes from one of the Dusty Fashion Packs (they're white wedge sandals).  Not sure what I'm going to do with her.  Too nice to customize.  Perhaps a trade at some point?

June 27th

• Vintage Record of Disney Songs performed by Louis Armstrong - Of course, when I got home, I learned that this album was on Spotify!  *facepalm*  It's in perfect condition, but I think I'll be re-donating. 
• Vintage MOTU Snake Mountain.  Missing a bunch of parts, but the basic shell of the playset with snake and rat voice changer look good.  No idea if the voice changer still works since I don't have batteries for it.
• Duchess Swan - Eeee!  The second time I've found her in-store.  The first time I was beyond my doll budget.  This time?  Well, I am still beyond my doll budget, but I really wanted this doll.  Still have her MIB in case of buyer's remorse (don't judge, lol)!

Yesterday

• Ghoulia Yelp's Scooter - Popped into Ross last night to check out what they had in the toy aisle.  I saw Thronecoming Apple & Blondie for $13.99, as well as Signature C.A. Cupid for $10.99 (steals!)  Also saw the flipping Rainbow Dash for $13.99 and a Rainbow Rocks EQG Pinkie for $13.99.  MLP Pinkie Pop with Sugar Cube Corner for $9.99...but then I saw the scooter for $11.99!!!!!  I nearly bought a used one in poor condition for $7 at a Goodwill not too long ago.  I would lovelovelove to walk into Tuesday Morning or Ross one of these days and find the TRU doll-scooter set.  But, hey, I'll take what I can get!

• Coffin Bean Clawdeen - Missing apron.  Already own one, so she's headed to eBay!
• Dot Dead Gorgeous Ghoulia - Missing glasses, purse, and had her hair styled by a butcher.  She's still a looker, though!  Adding her to my collection until I a) find a replacement, b) want to try my hand at rehairing a doll, or c) need a body for another doll.
• Monchhichi Doll - I can't pass these up.  Love them!  Buuuuut, heading to eBay.
• Scamp - I'm pretty sure this little guy is vintage.  I just don't know how vintage.  Disney Parks exclusive  Mint condition, too!  Well, except for the tush tag, which had a tear through it.
•  Cheshire Cat - I bought this to accompany my "Before Once Upon a Time" Alice.  Disney Parks exclusive.  Mint condition.
• TY Fluttershy - I found Twilight & Pinkie at the same store!  Achievement unlocked: 1/2 of the Mane Six in TY form.
• Glim'R Doll - Missing shoes and necklace.  Okay, so there was a direct-release Barbie movie called "A Fashion Fairtale" and there were three "Flairies."  Fairies with flairs for fashion.  Yes, that is me you hear gagging.  I mean, c'mon!  Ugh.  Anway, she was packaged with Clawdeen so I had to bring her home...and now I like her *headdesk*  I mean, she's very Monster High-ish despite her character's sexist and saccharine sweet backstory.  There was a purple one at the thrift store, too.  However the other flairy was coupled with a a doll I didn't want at a price that was too high.
• GUND Lamb Plush - It was included with Cheshire.  It's brand new.  I plan on gifting it someone (shhh, don't tell them I found it at a thrift!)
• Aurora Horse Plush - Included with Scamp.  Either being traded or re-donated.  Not keeping beyond 30 days (that's my limit for "junk" when I run out of storage/display space)..

Monday Surprises

I was having trouble falling asleep last night.  After two hours of lying in bed, I decided to surf the web.  I browsed over 100 pages of toys and dolls on ShopGoodwill.com until I started to feel sleepy.

I found this lovely auction that ended this morning.  I was surprised to learn that I won!  I have been looking for an affordable (less than $30) Fashion Style Apple Jack since last summer!    I was surprised again when I learned that they shipped my items shortly after I sent payment (it normally takes a few days). I'll be re-homing the other ponies as soon as my package arrives.

My favorite thrift store offers 50% and 33% discounts on certain colors on Sunday and Monday.  Because of this, I normally don't shop on these days.  You would think that this would be the perfect time to shop.  Nope.  Normally all of the toys I prefer to buy are gone..  Cleared out by moms, collectors, and antique dealers.  I prefer to shop mid-week, when there are no special offers.  It's as if all of the toys are there just for me.  However, I am in need of some "new" clothes, so I decided to take a chance and paid the store a visit.

I didn't find any clothes, but I did get a few toys:

Sometimes amazing coincidences happen.  This weekend I picked up a box of toys that contained a strange accessory (I was planning to blog about the loot before posting this entry, but this is just too good not to share).  It looked like a brown bucket.  I was planning to photograph it and post on various toy message boards to see if anyone knew where it came from.  Didn't get around to it.

I did a Google search to see which accessories came with the Berry Bake Shoppe and found this picture:

See it?  It's the pot!  This is just too much of a coincidence that I found the Berry Bake Shoppe building today!  Now I just have to keep an eye out for all of those other accessories...this might take me a few years to put it all together!

On my way home, I decided to stop at another thrift store.  It is my least favorite store...but I was hoping to find some clothes.  Nope.  Everything was old and ugly.  I took a spin around the bric-a-brac, the toys, the furniture...and that's where I saw it.  The most amazing lamp EVER!  I heard a little voice in my head, "You could always use more light."  Then another voice said "You will never find a lamp like this again!"  I checked the price.  $3.  $3?!  Heck, yeah.  New lamp!

I can't find any information online about this lamp, but I know it's mid-century modern vintage (60's? 70's?) and made by a company called Heyco.  The plastic has discolored in a way that, fortunately, still looks good. Love, love, love my new lamp!
